LIMITLESS, the fourth chapter of our ocean journey with Ambrogio Beccaria, his ALLAGRANDE project and K-Way
Together with K-Way, we’re portraying the story and essence of ocean sailor Ambrogio Beccaria. ‘Limitless’ is the fourth chapter of our journey into his aquatic universe and the final stage of the documentary ‘How Far You Can Go’.
“Man does not truly exist except in the struggle against his own limits,” noted mountain writer Ignazio Silone. Where height becomes depth and peaks become the abyss, existence strives to overcome individual limits and fuse knowledge with the competitive spirit. The story of Ambrogio Beccaria has taught there are no boundaries to your ambitions, especially when you add the desire to prevail over the other; when the underestimated value of challenge becomes explicit it leads to an exploration of new inner and outer dimensions.
“I probably wouldn’t have faced all these routes if I hadn’t been competing. I wouldn’t have had the same strength. During a race, everything changes for me; distinct motivations take over…. In solo races, you’re never truly alone. There are other competitors. Competitiveness has helped me really get to know the ocean. This ‘game’ is all about routes; when I face others, the insights I gain help me discover whether there is a route a little further north or south, but also, for example, how to deal with a storm or overcome a depression… If I made these trips alone outside of a competitive context, I would only get so much out of it. I always want to get everything I can.”

Sharing in the unknown, not only as a geographical parameter but as the outcome of competition, educates the intellect and sensitivity of athletes, especially navigators. It puts them in tune with adversaries who are fellow travelers, equally friends as foes, and motivates and fosters individual, intellectual experiences. And the same goes for the sea: an eternal teacher, reticent to show its true nature, raw in communicating its truths, essential in shaping new philosophies, visions, and lives.
“The sea helped me accept failure as part of a journey. One of the reasons I was able to turn a dream into a career lay in never being afraid to fail. From the outset, I was sure that no matter what, it would be an incredible adventure, something worth devoting every part of my being to. And when you put everything you have into it and have courage, everything seems to fall into place. When you’ve pulled out all the stops, something good will surely come from the sea. They may not necessarily be about sports. I’m not necessarily saying it’ll be about success or victory. I’m talking about something else. I know that every story has its own boundaries; in my case, I overcame them by embracing the possibility of failure. This natural process has helped me find a kind of lightness in making certain choices, even those that might have seemed strange to most.”
